First Ni-Vanuatu Students Complete BYU-Idaho Pathway Program

A devotional was held recently at the Port Vila Nambatu Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to honour 19 individuals who recently completed the BYU Pathway program. They are mostly young single adults with a few being married.

President Yvon Basil, senior local leader of the Church in Vanuatu, congratulated the students for their achievement, their commitment and desire to pursue their education.

Pathway is a low-cost educational program for Church members offered by Brigham Young University-Idaho that combines online courses with local gatherings. It is designed to give students the confidence and skills needed to succeed in college.

Students earn college credit that is eligible for transfer to BYU-Idaho and some other universities. The program takes 10 months (or three semesters) to complete, and can lead to professional certificates and degrees.

One graduate said, “I have been blessed throughout the three terms in this program. The BYU Pathway program has given me an opportunity to improve my fluency in English and my understanding in Algebra and Maths.”

The Pathway program also has a spiritual component that helps students strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ.

President Basil said, “Heavenly Father expects us to wisely use our agency to choose the divine path of righteousness and to diligently seek Him through the scriptures and to increase our knowledge in all the sciences of the world.”

On February 7, 2017, Church leadership announced the creation of a new organization within the Church Educational System called BYU-Pathway Worldwide, with the current Pathway program being one of its core products.
